“Love Never Felt So Good” was a posthumously released track in 2014 on the “Xscape” album. The original piano demo was created during a two-week recording session between Michael and Paul Anka in 1983. Johnny Mathis went on to record the song, though with slightly different lyrics.
Michael’s demo leaked online in 2006 and it was considered for the first posthumous album “Michael” in 2010. When it was finally used four years later, a duet version with Justin Timberlake was also released. This became a top 10 hit in the US and UK. The duet also sampled percussion and breaths from Michael’s 1979 song “Workin’ Day and Night.”
During the recording sessions with Anka, the two musicians wrote “This Is It” (originally titled “I Never Heard”) and “Don’t Matter to Me.” The latter was sampled in the 2018 song of the same name by Drake.
